REI Co-op is taking its year-round Opt Outside commitment to new heights with a sponsored ‘Steps’ Challenge on Strava.
The outdoor retailer aims to inspire a more active lifestyle by encouraging people to log at least 15,000 active steps between July 31 and August 14.
Challenge Details
To participate, both new and existing Strava users can join the challenge for free.
By tracking their steps, participants can monitor their progress, connect with a community of outdoor enthusiasts, and earn a completion badge.
REI believes that small, consistent steps can significantly impact overall well-being.
The Benefits of Stepping It Up
Research indicates a strong correlation between increased step count and improved mental and physical health.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a daily goal of 10,000 steps, many Americans fall far short of this target.
To make the challenge enjoyable and manageable, especially in warmer weather, REI offers expert tips for staying cool and comfortable outdoors.
REI’s Cooling Tips
To maximize outdoor enjoyment during hot weather, REI recommends the following:
- Prioritize breathable fabrics: Lightweight, woven materials like the REI Co-op Sahara Solid Long-Sleeve Shirt allow better airflow and reduce heat buildup.
- Opt for moisture-wicking clothing: Garments like the REI Co-op Sahara Shade Hoodie efficiently transport moisture away from the body, keeping you dry and comfortable.
- Choose quick-dry fabrics: REI Co-op’s Swiftland collection excels at wicking moisture and drying rapidly, which is ideal for active pursuits.
- Leverage ventilation: Many technical clothing items feature vents and mesh panels that enhance airflow and accelerate evaporation.
A Strong Partnership
REI’s collaboration with Strava has proven successful in motivating people to prioritize outdoor activity.
The previous “Active Days” challenge attracted over 120,000 participants, demonstrating the power of these partnerships.
The step challenge builds on this success, aiming to inspire even more individuals to embrace the outdoors and improve their health.
By joining the REI Co-op Opt Outside Steps Challenge on Strava, participants can not only contribute to their personal well-being but also become part of a growing community dedicated to outdoor exploration and adventure.
