Hydrapak has been a major player in the hydration game over the last several years. Somehow they keep finding ways to continue innovating, whether through materials they use, design features, or their form factors.
The Hydrapak Seeker 3L Water Bag is a hybrid water bottle and bladder that is equally at home in a backpack pocket or tossed in the bed of a truck.
The Seeker 3L Water Bag is a different take on traditional water containers. Compared with similar products in the category, this container boasts a sleek and lightweight form factor while still retaining durability you can feel. This container has a large opening for easy drinking and for filling rapidly from water sources. The cap screws on securely and inspires confidence that there will be no leaks.
The Hydrapak Seeker 3L is surprisingly less expensive than similar capacity water bladders on the market. The value at this price point is outstanding. If you’re looking for an affordable and portable solution for carrying water on your adventures, you can’t go wrong with the Hydrapak Seeker 3L Water Bag. This water container will serve you well no matter where your travels take you.

Unique Features of the Hydrapak Seeker 3L Water Bag
Hydrapak truly nailed the form factor on this container. It can slide easily into the side or front pockets of your backpack—essentially anywhere you can think to put it. This slim container is reminiscent of a Nalgene bottle, but instead of hard plastic, you’ve got some very flexible materials that allow you to put this bag wherever you want it.
The integrated handle is a great touch that allows for easy carrying whether you’re tossing it into your truck or carrying it back from the creek. The handle is built out of a robust TPU and is solidly affixed to the bag.
Should you find yourself needing to do unreasonably long water carry while backpacking or trekking through scorching hot desert environments, you’ll love the ability to lash the container to the top, side, or bottom of your pack. Try doing that with an ordinary bladder!
The Hydrapak Seeker is filtration compatible, fitting most 42mm threaded caps and filters such as the ever-popular Katadyn BeFree filter, which is pretty awesome. This makes the Hydrapak Seeker a great option for those who either don’t want to use a gravity filter or for those times when there is just no good way to hang one.
Included Storage bag
Hydrapak graciously included a storage bag with their Seeker 3L. This small bag will be attached to the top carry handle when you first open up the box. The water container fits in here nicely, and it significantly reduces the packed size as well as keeps any moisture away from other items in your pack. Just make sure to stow it somewhere safe as it is quite small and could get blown away by a stiff wind.
How the Hydrapak Seeker 3L Compares to Water Bags, Bottles, and Bladders
Hydrapak 3L Seeker vs. MSR Dromedary Bag
The MSR Dromedary Bag has long been the standard for expedition water storage and transportation. These bags come in a variety of sizes that go all the way up to ten liters. The Dromedary is really meant just for the transportation of water. It’s heavy, burly, and not easy to drink out of. It also costs a significant amount more than the Hydrapak Seeker. In terms of form factor, the Dromedary is really just a large bag, and it makes transporting it a bit difficult unless you can stuff it into your bladder pocket. For personal use, the Hydrapak wins hands down.
Hydrapak 3L Seeker vs. Platypus Bottle
Platypus is another brand that has been making water bottles for a long time. Like MSR, they make some effective solutions for carrying water into the backcountry. The Platy Bottle 2L comes in at $15.95 which is about $10 bucks cheaper than the Hydrapak. However, it is not nearly as durable, it does not come with any method to carry the bottle externally, and it is prone to leaking. As far as filter compatibility, it’s hard to say if filters will work with the Platy bottle. Platypus does not list the cap size so you really have no way of judging until you get it in your hands.
Hydrapak vs. The Rest
You wouldn’t think that the Hydrapak Seeker 3L is such a niche product; however, a quick Google search would prove you wrong. The two products above aren’t even feature-for-feature comparisons, but the rest of the competition is making either hydration bladders, giant plastic jugs, or vacuum insulated jugs. There’s no other water bag quite like it. The Hydrapak Seeker is actually in a league of its own, and quite frankly, it is crushing it.
