REI Co-op Gains Approval from SBTi for Net-Zero Targets to Combat Climate Crisis

Leading outdoor retailer REI Co-op has received the coveted stamp of approval from the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious net-zero climate targets.

The announcement underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to combating the climate crisis and fostering sustainability.

In its endeavor to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2050, REI is ramping up its climate leadership efforts.

This will involve a significant expansion of renewable energy adoption within its own operations and extended support to partners nationwide.

Moreover, the company is actively participating in international coalitions formed by businesses, transcending borders to delve deep into supply chains, in a united front against the global climate crisis.

The Science Based Target initiative, a globally recognized authority, specializes in aiding businesses to establish aggressive emissions reduction targets that align with the most up-to-date climate science.

Chris Speyer, Chief Merchandising Officer at REI, voiced the company’s unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility, saying, “We believe businesses have an urgent responsibility to address the climate crisis and invest in the communities in which they operate.”

The co-op is proud to retail a huge number of brands that share this sense of responsibility, and they will continue collaborating with their partners to reduce their collective impacts.
