The Quarter-Zip version gives a bit more breathability for hiking in cool climates, and the pattern makes it even more city-friendly. That said, it’s a fully featured backcountry piece. Fine midweight merino wool, a 10-inch front zipper, and UPF 50+ is all built in.

4. Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 Tent – $252.70 (44% Off)

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 Tent

The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 is an impressive backpacking tent. We have awarded it for years due to its 3 pound weight and ingenious design features like interior pockets, full doors, and lofted headroom.

It’s still a small two-person tent, but will fit two 20-inch pads side by side, and take up very little space in your pack. The random ripstop material is surprisingly durable despite feeling paper-thin, and the DAC Featherlite NFL and NSL pole hub will withstand a lot of pressure from wind.

This is an expensive tent, and it’s rarely discounted beyond 20-percent off. Get it before it’s gone. (It’s also the 2019 version.)

This is the Original Puffy made with 100% post-consumer recycled materials, greatly reducing the environmental impact of the product. The exterior material is a strong, rip-resistant 30D polyester, and the insulation is synthetic.

It’s made with Mystery Ranch’s attention to unique design and serious materials. The Urban Assault features a 3-zip design that allows you to open either side of the top, the whole top, or fully open the bag like a duffel. The tent has two large doors, a privacy panel covering the bottom half, and a full mesh top if you want to stargaze.

8. REI Co-op Radiant 19 Sleeping Bag – $122.95 (44% Off)
REI Co-op Radiant 19 Sleeping Bag

The REI Radiant 19 is a down sleeping bag that has been around for years. The women’s version is called the Serrana — and both bags utilize a mummy design with quality features for impressive warmth, a small pack size, and relatively minimal weight.

The Radiant uses 600-fill water-repellent down that has been certified by the Responsible Down Standard. This means a warm, lofty bag. It also has a durable ripstop nylon shell, a face muffler and full-length draft tube for warmth, and a stash pocket under the collar.

The Radiant and Serrana have a more casual fit than some mummy bags, which will give you plenty of room to move around, and the whole thing compresses to just over six liters and weighs 2.5 pounds.

9. The North Face Denali 2 Fleece Hoodie – $89.12 (55% Off)

The North Face Denali 2 Fleece Hoodie

The North Face Denali 2 was an update to the classic Denali fleece — and each feature continues to make it the go-to premium in heavyweight, casual fleece. We reviewed and awarded this product.

The North Face uses a heavyweight, recycled fleece for most of the jacket, which is both cozy to the touch and very warm. The chest area and part of the sleeves are reinforced with a wind-blocking polyester, providing extra durability. There are four large zippered pockets for storage, and adjustable points at the hem to lock in warmth.

If you’ve dreamed of the large, kind of bulky, ultra-warm fleece, the Denali 2 is it. And it’s seriously discounted.

10. TENTSILE Flite+ Tree Tent – $196.45 (44% Off)

TENTSILE Flite+ Tree Tent

If you’ve always wanted to sleep above ground, but in a real tent — welcome to TENTSILE. The Flite+ is a two-person tree tent that allows you to sleep suspended well above the ground.

We find this to be excellent for areas with creepy crawlers, or locations that don’t have much in the way of flat surfaces. Or, of course, for those of you who prefer to do things a little differently. The Flite+ has two large doors, an insect mesh top, and a removable rainfly like a regular tent. There’s a 55 square-foot porch area, which is actually just under the tent, which now doubles as rain protection.

The tent is seven pounds, so not quite comparable to ultralight backpacking tents, but still pretty dang light for the technology. Also, TENTSILE plants 18 trees for every tent sold.

15. Outdoor Research Skyward II Jacket – $183.70 (48% Off)

Outdoor Research Skyward II Jacket

The Outdoor Research Skyward II Jacket is the only snow-and-ski specific item we have on this list. (If you want more of this, REI has a ton of others on sale). We picked it because it’s a breathable, lightweight downhill ski jacket, and gives you the versatility in the world of portable snowy protection.

The Skyward II uses Outdoor Research’s AscentShell waterproof breathable laminate, which keeps you from gushing sweat while moving quickly, but fends off rain and snow with ease. It has a durable 50-denier polyester knit backer, which feels good against the skin and will last. There are thumbholes, pit zips, YKK AquaGuard zippers, a two-way center front zipper, and a fully articulated, functional hood with a wire brim.

The Skyward II also utilizes Outdoor Research’s TorsoFlo heat dumping, which allows you to zip open the sides of the jacket. This, plus four full pockets and a one-pound, 10-ounce weight, make it one of the most versatile coats in the category.

And it’s heavily discounted.

The NEMO Losi 2 is not 44% off as described in this article. All Losi model tents are coming up at 25% off currently as of March 8th, 2020. Maybe they were deeper discounted earlier in the sale. Or maybe there are some affiliate perks for Backpackers.com to be sending customers to a retailer site that incentivize overindulged reporting of deals.
