Smith Introduces New Backcountry Helmet

Smith has unveiled a new lightweight and durable snow helmet that’s certified to meet the diverse needs of alpine skiers, mountain climbers, and backcountry travelers.

The Summit MIPS Snow Helmet is made for mountain expeditions where lightweight and maximum protection are key factors.

Its triple-certified design meets global alpine ski certs plus international mountaineering standards.

Designed and inspired by Smith athletes Cody Townsend and Hadley Hammer, the design combines a minimalist aesthetic with mountaineering-specific elements to keep the product ultra-light while yet being suitable for alpine activities.

While the Smith Flexible Fit System featuring BOA gives a micro-adjustable fit and compresses within the helmet for simple packing into your pack, Zonal Koroyd and MIPS impact protection absorb energy in the case of a crash.

Additionally, external bungee loops provide a safe connection to a pack’s exterior.

A beanie and ball cap-compatible design allows you to adapt to the weather, while integrated headlamp strap routing maintains a light in place.

The new Summit helmet, created in partnership with outdoor gear company VSSL, weighs 16 oz/400 g (size medium) and comes in five colors, including Matte Algae/Olive.

It’s currently available online at smithoptics.com and in select retailers worldwide.
