Initial Thoughts on the Hyperlite Mountain Gear 3400 Southwest Pack

The Hyperlite Mountain Gear 3400 Southwest Pack pack was great! I’m stoked to get it out more in an alpine mountaineering environment. It’s an extremely lightweight pack that is made for truly rough adventures in the backcountry.

Pros Cons
  • Carries heavier weight more comfortably compared to other lightweight backpacks.
  • Lack of internal storage compartments makes organizing gear difficult.
  • Cinch straps, roll top, and durable materials protect the pack against sharp objects like ice axes or rocks while keeping it internally waterproof during storms.
  • Roll top is great for waterproofing, but accessing and storing gear is a slow process.
